Boyega first joined the Star Wars franchise at the beginning of the Sequel Trilogy, when Abrams brought him on board for 2015’s The Force Awakens. Cut to the present day, and the pair have finally finished their last day on set, prompting the Pacific Rim: Uprising actor to send out a message thanking his director:

“That’s a wrap on Star Wars episode 9 and the end to a chapter of my life that I couldn’t be more thankful for. What a process! It really has been a joy to be in these movies surrounded by amazing people. I personally want to thank @jjabramsofficial for giving me a chance to make my dreams come true

To our supporters…. See you SOON! May the force be with you.”

The star accompanied these words with the same photo that Abrams recently shared of Boyega, Daisy Ridley and Oscar Isaac sharing a hug on what looks to be the same desert set in Wadi Rum, Jordan, which Boyega seemingly visited in October last year.

While Lucasfilm has been stingy with the details on this year’s release, Boyega has proven to be a little more generous with his teases of the adventure to come. Last month, for instance, the actor shared a mysterious photo of his hands with a single drop of blood on them, explaining in the caption that he’d just shot a “visually crazy” scene. In an interview with Empire, Boyega even reportedly confirmed the old rumor that the film will feature a one-year time-jump, though he later claimed that he couldn’t remember saying this.

In any case, now that filming on Star Wars: Episode IX has wrapped, you have to wonder if Abrams and Lucasfilm are finally feeling ready to make the long-awaited title drop, but regardless of what these next few weeks bring, it’ll still be a fair wait before the pic hits theaters on December 20th, 2019.
