Though Lucasfilm has proven even stingier than expected on the details of Star Wars: Episode IX, it looks like things are moving forward smoothly for J.J. Abrams’ upcoming trilogy-closer, with various social media posts from Pinewood crew members indicating that principal photography on the film has now wrapped.
As an added bonus, Disney has announced today that something called “Triple Force Friday” is coming on October 4th of this year. Though details on the event are still vague, the day will offer a first look at some of the tie-in merchandise for various upcoming releases, including Episode IX, the EA and Respawn game Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and the Disney Plus show The Mandalorian.
Anyway, going back to the news about production wrapping, the development was pretty much expected seeing how both R2-D2 actor Jimmy Vee and Anthony Daniels of C-3PO fame have taken to social media in recent weeks to announce that they’ve shot their final scenes. Of course, the team also has plenty of time for reshoots in the coming months, but with the project apparently ready to move onto the next stage, a lot of fans will be hoping for some kind of official announcement from Lucasfilm in the near future.
As it stands, it’s generally assumed that we’ll be getting our first footage from the film at least as soon as the Star Wars Celebration in April. The same can be said for the long-awaited title reveal, though seeing how we learned the title of The Last Jedi as early as January 23rd on the year of its release, you could argue that we’re already overdue for Star Wars: Episode IX to get the same treatment. Regardless, we’ll find out what Abrams and Lucasfilm has spent these last few months shooting when the film hits theaters on December 20th, 2019.
