Marvel May Include An Intermission In Avengers: Endgame

Though the average superhero movie clocks in at around two hours, one could say it was The Dark Knight Rises' impressive running time that opened the floodgates for various successors in the years to follow. Had Christopher Nolan's epic not hit the billion dollar mark in 2012, we may not be having this conversation today.

More recently, Avengers: Infinity War fearlessly dazzled audiences for two hours and forty minutes. Fortunately, the gamble paid off for Marvel Studios because that bad boy raked in more than $2 billion at the worldwide box office. Then again, it also had some serious brand recognition going for it, so I think that certainly helped.

Having said that, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to hear that this spring’s Avengers: Endgame could very well run for three hours. According to the directors themselves, Joe and Anthony Russo, their upcoming blockbuster has yet to be trimmed down.

Funny enough, it was recently reported that test audiences didn’t leave for bathroom breaks during that allotted time, perhaps because they didn’t want to miss anything. But what happens in a matter of months once some unfortunate soul has to pee – or poop – when Earth’s Mightiest Heroes begin laying the smack down?

Well, according to Coming Soon’s Alan Cerny, Endgame could very well feature an intermission. Here’s what he had to say in one of his latest Tweets:

“Rumor has it Marvel is considering an intermission for AVENGERS: ENDGAME as it is currently clocking at three hours. Bring it on. I love intermissions. Makes the movies that have them feel very epic. Besides, a pee break would be nice.”

If that’s the case, I certainly won’t complain. I mean, even though I never buy a beverage at the cinema for just that reason, I wouldn’t mind having a few minutes to stretch my legs. Speaking from experience, an intermission granted during a concert put on by the band Ghost which I attended last year came as a welcome gift in the midst of a twenty-plus song set.

Odds are we’ll learn whether this rumor pans out or not before Avengers: Endgame storms theaters on April 26th. As such, keep watching this space for more.
