As the release date for Toy Story 4 looms closer, many fans are approaching the project with mixed feelings after Toy Story 3 did such a fine job of wrapping up the saga. But if there’s one thread that the 2010 film left hanging, it was the story of Bo Peep, whose absence is explained away in just a couple of lines of dialogue, meaning that if a fourth movie has to happen, then the character’s return is perhaps a fitting way to keep the series going.
Bo Peep’s comeback has been officially announced by way of a quick new teaser shared by the official Pixar Twitter account today. In a statement from Disney, it’s revealed that Annie Potts’ character has become chipped and faded over time, but has taken well to a life on the road. Having reunited unexpectedly with Woody after years of separation, the pair reportedly realize that they’ve grown worlds apart.
This morning has also seen the release of a new poster that gives Bo the spotlight. The design is similar to the various character images released last year, while Bo strikes a confident pose that reflects director Josh Cooley’s recent claim that she’s “taken control of her own destiny.” Potts herself had similar comments about her character, mentioning in a new statement that “Bo is modern, independent, capable and confident,” and that she is “written and conceived to be inspiring as she has weathered life’s ups and downs with grace.”
As it stands, it’s unclear how Bo and her old friends end up crossing paths again, though it was reported earlier this month that the adventure begins with our heroes joining the young Bonnie for her first day in kindergarten. We’ll find out how things progress from there when Toy Story 4 hits theaters on June 21st, 2019.
