It’s been one of the most stubbornly persistent rumors around the upcoming Star Wars: Episode IX that the Knights of Ren are making a comeback, but not only does this latest report serve as one more source claiming that Kylo’s old friends will be entering the fray, but it’s also implied that the group will have a famous face among their ranks.
This claim comes to us from Reddit user Temiriblagg1, who recently dropped a load of alleged intel on the StarWarsLeaks subreddit that was said to have been taken “from various sources around the pinewood set.” In response to this post, a moderator has said that while some of their information checks out, other parts seem unlikely based on what their own sources have shown them.
Regardless, it’s said that the Knights of Ren will be getting a surprisingly generous amount of screen time in J.J. Abrams’ upcoming trilogy-closer, and that one of these warriors looks to be played by none other than Matt Smith, who’s allegedly been seen on set dressed in dark robes and holding a lightsaber.
Naturally, this should all be taken with the usual grain of salt, but this is far from the first report to allege that the Doctor Who actor is playing a villain, with previous rumors suggesting everything from General Hux’s second-in-command to a young Sheev Palpatine.
Of course, this hearsay could turn out to be completely off the mark, but we may find there’s no smoke without fire when Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters on December 20th, 2019. In the meantime, here’s hoping all those predictions of an imminent title reveal amount to something in the next couple of weeks.
