The long-awaited first trailer for Spider-Man: Far From Home was just one of a pair, with Sony also releasing an international trailer that may contain a fair amount of overlap with the domestic version, but still offers some fresh footage of Peter Parker and his classmates on their travels.
The key differences between the two videos are largely seen in the first minute or so. While the domestic trailer sets the scene with some New York footage, depicting Peter’s preparations for his school trip while hinting at Aunt May and Happy Hogan’s relationship, the international version shows the class already at the airport. As well as announcing the return of Michelle “MJ” Jones, Ned Leeds and Betty Brant, the footage also sees Peter’s secret identity almost discovered as customs opens up his bag to reveal his old red and blue costume.
Judging from the various photos shared from the film’s sets in Europe and New York, the wall-crawler won’t be spending a whole lot of time wearing this particular outfit, as Peter looks be acquiring a black stealth suit that fans have already speculated he may have gotten from S.H.I.E.L.D. And when he isn’t needing to be quite so sneaky, it looks like he’ll be wearing a new red-and-black outfit both in his home town and abroad.
In any case, from the moment that Ned Leeds gets taken down by a dart from Nick Fury, the domestic and international trailers seem mostly the same, with Spidey encountering various Elementals and running into his new friend Mysterio, played by Jake Gyllenhaal. It all looks pretty impressive, but there are surely many more surprises being kept under wraps and we’ll find out just what the footage isn’t showing us when Spider-Man: Far From Home hits theaters on July 5th, 2019.
