The Star Wars Sequel Trilogy is known to include a few celebrity cameos in each installment, from Daniel Craig’s brief appearance as a Stormtrooper in The Force Awakens, to Prince William and Harry’s similar roles in The Last Jedi. It’s therefore not all that absurd to think that singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran might be showing up in next year’s Star Wars: Episode IX.
This claim comes courtesy of The Sun UK, which alleges that the multi-platinum-selling Grammy-winner has “been seen suiting up” as a Stormtrooper to shoot some scenes at Pinewood studios. And while the report has yet to receive any official confirmation, it’s certainly a plausible enough idea, given both Lucasfilm’s track record of hiding famous British faces under First Order helmets, and Sheeran’s cameo last year in Game of Thrones.
In any case, this Sun report is just the latest in a whole load of assertions we’ve been hearing this month regarding J.J. Abrams’ next release. A recent article from Making Star Wars, for instance, offers a lengthy summary of the various tidbits that inside sources have alleged.
Among these pieces of intel are the claims that Kylo Ren will be wearing a mask once more after smashing his once-trademark accessory in The Last Jedi, and that Adam Driver’s character will be joined by the Knights of Ren, who’ve been conspicuously absent from the trilogy so far. Elsewhere, it’s been rumored that the first trailer for the film will be dropping before Christmas.
Of course, this should all be taken with a pinch of salt for the time being, but you can expect the rumor mill to keep making fresh assertions right up until the moment that Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters on December 20th, 2019.
