While the release date of the first trailer for Star Wars: Episode IX hasn’t been the subject of as much speculation as the equivalent unveiling for Avengers 4, there’ve still been a good few rumors and theories making the rounds online in recent months, with fans suggesting anything from this month to February as likely times for the initial teaser. According to MCU Cosmic leaker Jeremy Conrad, however, much of the hearsay and conjecture so far has been a little on the optimistic side.
While discussing the possibility of the Avengers 4 trailer dropping this month, Conrad relayed reports that “something really awesome” of the non-Marvel variety will be coming our way in the next week or so. But when a follower on Twitter asked if this could be Episode IX-related, he predicted a long wait for anything on that front, saying:
“No IX until April. There are reasons why it’s too soon to show stuff.”
While filming on J.J. Abrams’ upcoming trilogy-closer was previously reported to wrap in February 2019, word got out last month that production had been extended by two months, making this a pretty reasonable prediction. In fact, even the recent rumor that the first teaser would be arriving in February added that the main trailer could premiere at Chicago’s Star Wars Celebration in April, which makes sense given Lucasfilm’s history with the event.
In the meantime, it sounds like set pics and speculation will be our best sources of info for the next few months, with most of the cast seeming reluctant to drop any further details. But regardless of when this first footage comes out, one date that appears firmly in place is the release of Star Wars: Episode IX on December 20th, 2019.
