The first trailer for Avengers 4 has been the subject of more pre-release speculation than most actual feature films get, but the signs these days suggest that the teaser isn’t more than a month or so away, and according this new theory, further evidence of the promo’s impending arrival comes from a recent Fortnite update.
While the game may seem like a strange place to find info on the promotion for next year’s Avengers: Infinity War sequel, the two properties do have a little shared history, in that Thanos was a playable character featured in Limited Time Mode around the time that Infinity War came out. Now, a change to the sound files has been interpreted by one fan as a sign of things to come.
“The Thanos sound files on Fortnite were updates in its last patch last week,” jualien wrote on Reddit. “Fortnite had an Infinity war x Fortnite crossover where the Infinity Gauntlet would drop into the map and whoever claimed it would turn into Thanos. Thanos could jump really high into the air shoot a purple laser beam and do melee attacks. This [Limited Time Game Mode] was in the month of May around Infinity War’s release. Now last week for no apparent reason Thanos’ laser beam sound was updated in the files and sounds a tad different which makes sense if they were to bring back the thanos [Limited Time Game Mode] but why would they in the beginning of November? Because the trailer is getting released!”
Does this sound like a stretch? Perhaps, but their conclusion that the trailer is coming soon may turn out to be correct all the same. After all, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige himself recently said that we should expect to see it in the next couple of months.
On top of that, one rumor that’s been getting a lot of attention in the last couple of days alleges that the teaser will be coming this month, and that it’ll unveil the widely predicted title of “Avengers: Annihilation.” But while those two ideas have been making the rounds a lot lately, what’s interesting about this particular report is that it offers the very specific detail that the trailer’s music will be a variation on the “Dust and Light” piece from the Hobbit movies. Now here’s a rumor that’s not afraid of being proven wrong.
While it almost feels like the Avengers 4 trailer could be popping up any day in next the few weeks, the film itself has its release date set for May 3rd, 2019.
