As things stand, the search for a replacement director is now underway, with sources saying that Marvel’s in no real rush and is fine taking their time in finding the perfect candidate. But when can we expect to see the threequel hit our screens? Well, we know its original 2020 release date is now long gone, and according to studio president Kevin Feige, the project isn’t moving anywhere anytime soon.

Speaking at a special screening of Black Panther last night for Oscar voters, Feige was asked about the latest on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and told those in attendance that for now, it’s “on hold.” Unfortunately, he wouldn’t get into specifics, but it definitely sounds like it’s going to be a while before the pic makes any tangible moves.

That’s probably not what fans want to hear, but at the very least, it sounds like Marvel Studios still have every intention of using Gunn’s script. At this point, however, it looks like the screenplay could need some major adjustments before it’s ready for shooting. And even putting these delays aside, there’s still the possibility that actor Dave Bautista won’t be reprising his role as Drax.

The former WWE superstar has remained among the most outspoken critics of the studio’s decision to fire Gunn, slamming the company on Twitter and continuing to hint that he’s unsure if he still wants to work for the Mouse House. Not only that, but he’s also suggested that he’d be game for joining Gunn on Suicide Squad 2.

In any case, it seems that things aren’t going too well for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 right now, but as soon as any further updates roll in, we’ll be sure to let you know. Until then, let’s just focus on what we know for sure is coming in 2020.
