Hellboy is back, and judging by the trailer that dropped at New York Comic Con today, he’s making his return in style.
Look, I absolutely adored the Guillermo del Toro films and like many people, was pretty skeptical when David Harbour was cast as the titular character. After all, how could anyone do the role better than Ron Perlman? Thankfully, it seems like the Stranger Things star is up to the herculean task, as judging by the first reactions to the footage that we have here, he’s slipping into the shoes of Big Red quite comfortably.
Seriously, for a film that many had written off, the verdicts coming out of Comic Con are surprisingly good. Promising a more dark and edgy take on the character, it sounds as if Harbour’s got a strong hold of the role while many are praising the footage for being fun, exciting and forging its own path, away from the del Toro films.

HOLY CRAP! THE #HELLBOY TRAILER IS AWESOME!!!! The tone is very fun, and action packed! The visuals are very crisp and much different the. The Del Toro films, but really looks like a good time! Harbour fits the roll great, and I am excited to see the film!

Of course, the movie industry will always hold del Toro’s Hellboy pics in high regard, and rightfully so, but the fact that creator Mike Mignola is deeply involved in this reboot tells us that it’ll probably be pretty faithful to the source material. And at least judging by these first reactions to the trailer shown today at New York Comic Con, Lionsgate is sitting with a hit on their hands and we can only hope that they’ll release the footage online sooner rather than later.
Also starring Ian McShane, Daniel Dae Kim and Milla Jovovich (Monster Hunter) as the malevolent Blood Queen, Lionsgate’s Hellboy reboot storm into theaters on April 12th, 2019 – one week after Shazam!
