A few weeks ago, it was reported that actor and known Donald Trump impersonator Alec Baldwin would be taking on the role of Thomas Wayne in the upcoming Joker movie. While the star has since dropped out of the project, it’s clear that the team is still keen to create a version of Bruce’s father that’s reminiscent of the 45th POTUS.
Brett Cullen recently replaced Baldwin in the role and based on this new set photo, the famed billionaire will indeed be running for office. “Moving Gotham Forward” is the slogan of Wayne’s campaign for mayor of Gotham City, on a poster that leaves us with a few questions – namely, what’s with the typo? Is ‘Wanye’ a deliberate misspelling, or did someone at the art department mess up? We assume that “Thomas Wanye For Mayor” isn’t some cheeky reference to Kanye West’s planned presidential bid, but who knows?
Presumably all queries will be addressed in due time, including a few questions that go way beyond a misspelled name. It remains to be seen, for instance, how exactly Thomas is still alive while the future Joker is already well into his adult years. In most versions of the Batman saga, both Thomas and his wife Martha are killed when Bruce is still a child – a moment that will serve as a pivotal tragedy in the formation of the Caped Crusader. This implies that in this particular cinematic world, either Bruce will one day grow up to fight a Joker that’s several decades older than him, or more likely, Bruce never became Batman, assuming that the character even exists in the first place.
In any case, we’re still over a year away from the movie hitting our theaters and we already have a generous array of videos and images to pore through. And you can expect plenty more details to make their way online before Joker comes out on October 4th, 2019.
