It’s no secret that Aquaman, Shazam! and a little-known DC sequel by the name of Wonder Woman 1984 are the priority for Warner Bros. and DC Films. But that wasn’t always the case.
Before the Powers That Be decided to scrap plans for an adaptation of Flashpoint, Barry Allen’s long-in-development solo movie looked to have been placed on the fast-track at Warner Bros., potentially opening up room for Ben Affleck to cameo as the Caped Crusader.
That’s no longer the case, as Affleck is on the verge of leaving Worlds of DC either before or immediately after The Batman, and the standalone Flash movie has been placed on ice. Driving home that point last night was Kiersey Clemons (Iris West), who admitted to Variety that there’s currently no signs of movement on Barry Allen’s solo adventure.
I’ve No idea, we don’t know yet. I mean, we have a little bit of an idea kind of who our director is, but I can’t say that. But I talk with Ezra [Miller] frequently and we’ll see. We can’t say anything until you guys know.
Does that mean that the standalone DC project is ostensibly on hold? In a word: yes. Not only did Clemons confirm that production won’t be kicking off anytime this year, but she also went on to reveal that, at least for now, 2019 is the current target for John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein’s spinoff.
What I will say is that they get to approve every job that I do and, so far, I’m not doing Flash for the rest of the year, we know that. I’m doing other things. But let’s hope for 2019.
So, there you have it; The Flash solo movie won’t be entering production until at least 2019, which will no doubt fuel online rumors that the finished product will be joining The Batman on Warner’s 2020 slate.
