While it really should’ve come as a surprise to no one, Marvel halted production on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 yesterday and, as you might expect, the internet did not handle it well.
For those of you who don’t know, last month, the Marvel Cinematic Universe was dealt one helluva sockdolager when The Walt Disney Company terminated filmmaker James Gunn over inappropriate content posted to his official Twitter account. Although there’d been talk that the House of Mouse might consider reinstating the director, unfortunately, Disney put their foot down last week and, the logical next step – putting the irreverent supergroup on ice – soon followed.
Truthfully speaking, Marvel hitting the pause button on Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was a long time coming. Nevertheless, inevitability doesn’t make accepting the harsh reality we’re now forced to swallow any easier.
As you’ll see below, the ability to predict the future had no bearing on how the Twitter-verse responded to the postponement of Vol. 3. Evidently, some are taking the shelving a bit harder than most, but on the whole, I’m sure Gunn would be thrilled that there are still those who found humor in the situation.
Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3 being put on hold in the wake of James Gunn being fired is more like common sense thinking. Not really surprising news.

Hey uh, @Disney? Yeah, I got two suggestions on how you could save the Guardians of the Galaxy:
1) #RehireJamesGunn
2) If that fails, make Thor 4 and add the Guardians to it. Problem solved.— Eric! 🔜 ??? (@IAmArique) August 24, 2018

Disney if you're looking for a director for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 I hear James Gunn is available.

If they're not going to rehire James Gunn just cancel GotG Vol 3. Don't "regroup" and get someone else to make it. End it. // Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3' Production Put On Hold (Exclusive) https://t.co/njWPVVcdw2 via @thr #GuardiansoftheGalaxyVol3 #GotG

Regrettably, the fandom may find itself mourning the loss of another Guardian of the Galaxy if Dave Bautista isn’t careful. The actor’s latest jab directed at Disney could very well land Drax the Destroyer in hot water, and even if he’s indeed capable of invisibility, there’s no escaping the wrath of the House of Mouse.
On the bright side, though, Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi recently met with Marvel to discuss an undisclosed project, and given that the Wellington, New Zealand native’s busy at the moment, maybe that’s why Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has been indefinitely pushed back?
