The creative team behind Avengers: Infinity War has leveled on Doctor Strange’s stroke of genius.
Now that the MCU epic is available digitally (Blu-ray and DVD on August 14th), budding MCU scholars have combed through every inch of the commentary track searching for clues and other scraps of intel relating to what is undoubtedly Marvel’s biggest movie yet.
Their quest has uncovered all sorts of wonderful trinkets, such as Thanos and Gamora’s dysfunctional relationship and the reason why Groot was able to lift Stormbreaker, a weapon forged from the light of a dying star that’s capable of killing Marvel’s Mad Titan ā providing it’s used correctly, of course.
And now, Joe and Anthony Russo, along with Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, have circled back to discuss the moment when Doctor Strange strategically places the Time Stone amongst the stars in an effort to hide it from Thanos.
Up first, co-writer Christopher Markus gave credit to the storyboard artist (Darrin Denlinger) who dreamed up the idea in the first place:
We should also do a shout-out. It’s one of the storyboard guys, but hiding the stone in the stars, I don’t know whose it was.
ContinuingĀ on, Infinity War‘s Anthony Russo took pride in the Marvel effects team, stating:
Yeah, I can’t remember if that came out of storyboards or visual effects, but I don’t know. But I love it, and have been delighted by it for a long time now.
All of this (and much more!) will be included as part of the Avengers: Infinity War Blu-ray on August 14th, though if you’re in the market for Marvel’s special 10-year directors roundtable, we’ll kindly point you in the direction of the film’s digital release.
