Wands at the ready, folks, for Warner Bros. has just released the spellbinding new trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.
Coming in hot from the studio’s uproarious SDCC panel (Shazam!, Aquaman!), this is arguably our best look yet at the David Yates prequel, which is said to be much darker than previous Potter movies. And no bloody wonder, as there’s a dangerous wizard on the loose.
Speaking of that Voldemort-like figure, above you’ll catch a better look at Gellert Grindelwald, Johnny Depp’s dark wizard who’s poised to become a major player throughout most of Warner’s Fantastic Beasts saga – much to the chagrin of some fans – though it’s looking increasingly likely that the pic will skate around that tragic romance between Grindelwald and Dumbledore, after all. Something that Ian McKellan isn’t too pleased about, apparently.
Be that as it may, the sequel still looks like an absolute treat, promising to whisk viewers away on another magical journey through Hogwarts and the wider Wizarding World.
Angled as the second installment in a five-film saga, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald will hope to cast a spell over Potterheads on November 16th, when Tina Goldstein (Katherine Waterston), her sister Queenie (Alison Sudol), and the fiercely loyal Muggle known as Jacob Kowalski (Dan Fogler) will round out the colorful cast of characters
And after that? Another three prequels set in the wider Potter universe, with each movie expected to take place in a totally different city. We’ve already paid a visit to 1920s New York, while The Crimes of Grindelwald is about to whisk viewers off on a Parisian adventure, so there’s no telling what Warner Bros. and director David Yates have in store for their “global story.”
