Jessica Chastain is a big believer in horror movies.
She’s even gone so far as to claim that Hollywood’s scariest genre has some of the best female characters around (see: Laurie Strode, Ellen Ripley, Nancy Thompson), so it’s small wonder why Chastain became one of the first actors to climb aboard It: Chapter Two.
In doing so, she’s reunited with Mama director Andy Muschietti, and it doesn’t take a soothsayer to realize that Jessica Chastain has clinched the role of Beverly Marsh, the character originally portrayed by the young Sophia Lillis for Chapter One. And now that filming on the sequel has officially commenced, the actress has shared a candid promo pic in which Lillis hands over the baton red balloon to her adult counterpart.
New Line’s casting department has been lauded for its handling of It: Chapter Two (and rightly so), and you’ll no doubt agree that Jessica Chastain is the spitting image of Sophia Lillis. What’s more, we’re pretty sure James Ransone and Shazam!‘s Jack Dylan could pass as father and son. The former has been assigned the role of adult Eddie Kaspbrak, which only adds another layer of authenticity to Andy Muschietti’s horror sequel as his Pennywise saga nears its bleak finale.
The adult Losers’ Club also includes James McAvoy as Bill, Bill Hader as Richie, Andy Bean as Stanley, Jay Ryan as Ben and Isaiah Mustafa as Mike. Their mission? To banish Pennywise once and for all. Doing so won’t be easy, of course, given Stephen King’s twisted abomination is known as the Eater of Worlds.
And while it’s far too early for It: Chapter Two to unveil any tangible footage, the 2019 sequel will be present at SDCC this coming weekend as part of New Line’s ‘ScareDiego’ – ditto for Corin Hardy’s horror prequel, The Nun.
