In the upcoming Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Vera Farmiga will apparently be handling duties as DJ of the monsters. But before you get too excited at the prospect of a Kaiju dance-off, you should probably read the actress’s original statement to get some clarification on what this position entails.
As somone with a history of dealing with frightening forces, be it in 2009’s Orphan or The Conjuring films, Farmiga’s now set to play a paleobiologist named Dr. Emma Russell in the next Godzilla movie. Speaking to Metro, the star shared a few more details on Dr. Russell’s place amidst the film’s epic battle between gigantic beasts, explaining:
“She has figured out a way to communicate with the creatures and potentially control them using their bioacoustics on a sonar level. So she is like a DJ for the monsters.”
It’s nice to know that we humans may not be completely powerless in the colossal smackdown. So far, we’ve yet to get a good look at any of the famous monsters who’ll be joining the eponymous star of 2014’s Godzilla in the field of battle, though we’re keen to see how the Warner Bros. production will handle old franchise favorites like Mothra, Rodan and King Ghidorah.
Fortunately, after what’s been a fairly quiet half-year for new developments on the project, we might get a chance to see some footage when King of the Monsters comes to the San Diego Comic-Con next week as part of Warner’s Hall H presentation. Director Michael Dougherty confirmed the news via Twitter last week, meaning that the big lizard will have his time to shine alongside the studio’s next set of DC movies and the much-anticipated horror films It: Chapter Two and The Nun – the latter of which incidentally stars Vera’s sister Taissa Farmiga.
Hopefully the San Diego weekend will give us something to tide us over until Godzilla: King of the Monsters brings the mayhem on May 31st, 2019.
