Ant-Man and the Wasp is set to be full of super-powered individuals. Obviously, there’s the titular duo of Scott Lang and Hope Van Dyne, but let’s not forget Michelle Pfeiffer’s original Wasp and Bill Foster AKA Goliath, as played by Laurence Fishburne. And while she won’t suit up in this movie, it seems the sequel will put the pieces in place for another character to become a hero in a future film.
While talking to Marvel on the red carpet, young actress Abby Ryder Fortson was asked about her arc in Ant-Man and the Wasp. The actress revealed that her character, Cassie Lang, Scott’s beloved daughter, will develop an interest in following in her father’s footsteps and becoming a superhero in her own right at some point when she’s older.
“I think in this movie she really shows that she’s really interested in becoming a superhero. In the last movie, she doesn’t really wrap her head around it, so in this movie, she really wants to fight with her dad.”
Just to make clear that she knows what she’s talking about, when asked who Cassie’s superhero identity would be, Fortson answered: “Stature.”
In the comics, Cassie also uses Pym particles to become an astonishing size-changing superhero like her pops and indeed goes by the codename Stature. She’s most known for joining the Young Avengers (who may be introduced in the franchise), too, alongside other second generation vigilantes like Wiccan, Speed and Hulkling.
As it happens, we might see Stature in the MCU sooner rather than later, it just probably won’t be Abby Ryder Fortson who plays her. 16-year-old actress Emma Furhmann reportedly appears in Avengers 4 as a teenage Cassie, which has led fans to believe the older version of the character could suit up as Stature. No doubt Cassie’s aging-up will be explained by all the time traveling the heroes are confirmed to be doing in the movie.
We’ll get to see for ourselves how Ant-Man and the Wasp sets up Cassie’s future when it hits theaters on July 6th.
