Today is September 1st, and you know what that means: only one more month until the season premiere of Dexter! Season 6 of the popular Showtime drama is going to have some kind of spiritual twist to it, as hinted by recent promotional stuff, but now we have the official synopsis:
The explosively popular DEXTER® is back with a vengeance for a sixth season of startling suspense and unexpected twists. It’s been a year since last season’s shocking and heartbreaking conclusion, and mild mannered criminologist-cum-grisly serial killer Dexter Morgan has come to terms with who he is. But his existence is shattered when he crosses paths with an enemy unlike any he’s faced before. A delusional religious zealot with unflinching convictions, this new adversary soon draws Dexter into a dangerous game that could well end in disaster.
Glad to see that Dexter is pulling a True Blood and going a year into the future. Although I’m sad to see them push Dexter (Michael C. Hall) even further from Rita’s death (Julie Benz), I’m satisfied to see him moved as far away from memories of the Lumen (Julia Stiles) disaster as possible. Let’s keep ladies out of Dexter’s life now, shall we?
Season 6 is supposed to be much more “classic Dexter,” with no women and no hesitations about his Dark Passenger, but Dexter is certainly going to be worried about his now two-year-old son, Harrison. Perhaps this is where he will begin to question his spirituality.
A trailer that released recently has Dexter wondering if his compulsive need to kill has a higher purpose, hinting that his religious turn won’t be about some specific dogma but about a spiritual questioning in general. The possible villains in this season, played by Mos Def, Colin Hanks, and Edward James Olmos, will each have a religion angle as well.
Season 6 will premiere on October 2nd. Check out a bunch of promotional stills below.
