With Ant-Man and the Wasp now less than a month removed from release, we’re inching closer and closer to putting a bow on Phase Three. I mean, what with Avengers 4 preparing for “pick-ups” and Brie Larson’s MCU debut, Captain Marvel, roughly halfway through production, at some point in the near future, the Powers That Be will have to fill us in on their plans for Phase Four, right?
Anyway, to be honest, I’m growing a tad weary of hearing about the greatness of Avengers: Infinity War, and with the untitled Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel commencing pre-production, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 having officially entered development, how can one not help but look to the future?
Perhaps I’m just getting too far ahead of myself. After all, advance tickets for Ant-Man and the Wasp officially went on sale today, and seeing as the twentieth MCU entry will serve as a sort of prequel to Infinity War and bridge the gap for the diminutive hero following his appearance in Captain America: Civil War, expect the Peyton Reed-directed installment to have some severe implications on Avengers 4 next year.
Speaking of the jumbled timeline, the newest TV spot for the pic, which you can watch above, has, intentionally or not, cleared up any confusion regarding its place in the MCU. If you recall, Scott Lang is under house arrest for his involvement in Civil War, avoiding jail and, ipso facto, allowing him to spend time with his daughter.
In the aforementioned teaser, Jimmy Woo (Randall Park) can be seen asking Scott (Paul Rudd) about Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and Hope van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly): “Two years under house arrest, you haven’t had any contact with Hank or Hope, have you?”
The line is seemingly confirmation that Ant-Man and the Wasp will occur two years after Civil War, during roughly the same timeframe as Avengers: Infinity War. As a result, any of the titular characters could, unfortunately, disappear, along with a majority of the eponymous supergroup due to Thanos and his Snap of Doom.
Thankfully, we don’t have to wait much longer for an answer on that, as Ant-Man and the Wasp will infest theaters on July 6th.
