First X-Men: Dark Phoenix Trailer Reaction Says It Looks Better Than Expected

A slew of retro-inspired costumes isn't the only thing that'll help separate Dark Phoenix from the pack, as we're now hearing that the latest X-Men installment is a bit of a lighter affair when compared to its superhero peers.

Or at least, so says Russian outlet KinoMetro, who were lucky enough to catch the first trailer for the film today at CineEurope, where Fox showed it off to those in attendance. It’s yet to make its way online unfortunately, and probably won’t be made available for a while, but the description below teases us with what we can expect.

Keep in mind that this is translated from Russian, so it’s a bit of a rough read. Still, it’s easy enough to make out the gist of it and the key takeaway here seems to be that the studio’s done away with the doom and gloom of previous entries, and that the film looks better than expected.

“The fantastic action thriller Dark Phoenix looks better than expected. At the presentation, this new trailer was shown, getting rid of the excessive gloom of the teaser and clearly positioning the project as a direct continuation of the X-Men.”

Sure, it’s not much, but at this point, we’ll take any info we can get our hands on about what may be in store for us come next year. After all, between extensive reshoots and some concerning reports emerging from test screenings, not to mention the lackluster reception that the last entry, Apocalypse received, fans are hesitant about Dark Phoenix at the moment, with many unsure if it’ll be able to turn things around for the franchise.

Frankly, we’re not too sure that it’ll be able to escape its so far troubled production unscathed, but we’re certainly curious to learn more and with any luck, Fox will release that CineEurope trailer at some point this summer. Perhaps it’ll accompany Ant-Man and the Wasp into theaters? Time will tell.

Starring Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), James McAvoy (Professor X), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Alexandra Shipp (Storm) and Kodi Smit-McPhee (Nightcrawler), among others, and aiming to “revolutionize” the superhero genre as we know it, X-Men: Dark Phoenix has been angled for a release on February 14th.
