Now that the dust is beginning to settle from Avengers: Infinity War, and half of the frikin’ universe lies in ruins, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to determine who will live, and who will die. You know, really die. With a capital ‘D.’
Avengers 4 will undoubtedly herald the answers fans so crave, though considering the likes of Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth (among others) are fast approaching the end of their respective contracts, it’s all but certain that 2019 will signal the last hurrah for either Iron Man, Thor, Cap…or all three.
That said, we now have reason to believe that Hemsworth will stick around the MCU beyond Avengers 4. Per Instagram, the Aussie actor took a moment to thank the Marvel fanbase following the runaway success of Infinity War (biggest superhero opening of all time in China), and later hinted at the future of his Thor Odinson.
It was the biggest superhero film opening ever. The film continues to smash records left, right and center and, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again — it’s all thanks to you guys. Thank you so much, everyone who continues to support these characters and the Marvel Universe. We’re going to keep trying to crank them out for you, if you let us.
Of course, Chris Hemsworth could be referring to the royal we, as in Marvel Studios plans to “keep trying to crank them out for you,” rather than a firm confirmation that Thor 4, or another Avengers movie, is already on the cards. But still, we live in hope.
Now that Infinity War has come and gone, and with Marvel Studios bracing for the back-to-back release of Ant-Man and the Wasp and Captain Marvel, it’ll be some time yet before we have any official intel pertaining to the super-secret Avengers 4. And yet, fans remain undeterred by the radio silence, and have taken it upon themselves to string together all sorts of theories for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. The latest? Time travel, which is either bang on point or totally bonkers.
