You’d be hard pressed to find a horror movie as super successful — in box office, fan and critical reception — as 2017’s IT reboot. Though Andy Muschietti and his team are busy gearing up for their second instalment in Stephen King’s esteemed supernatural horror franchise, fans of the film who picked up the recently released Far Cry 5 will be happy to hear that there are a few hidden surprises to find within the game that’ll get their inner Pennywise the Dancing Clown, well, floating with joy (*insert maniacal laugh here*).
Apparently, there are *at least* two Easter egg nods to the uber profitable horror flick in Far Cry 5’s fictional open-world Hope County, Montana. First up is an entrance to a sewer system that looks eerily similar to the one in the movie. There’s also a creepy red balloon waiting for those of you who discover it!
To find the first one, players need to head east from the crop circle in John’s region and they will come across a sewer pipe with a red balloon floating in front of it.
Secondly, there’s another IT Easter egg that can be found inside O’ Hara’s Haunted House.
O’Hara’s Haunted House can be found in Faith’s region, just northwest of Dead Man’s River. Complete the prepper stash mission here by climbing into the second floor of the house, turning the power on, entering the barn, and walking through the haunted house attraction full of jump scares. At the end of the haunted house, players will find another red balloon, along with an interesting note sitting on the chair.
The note is dubbed “Clown Thoughts,” though we don’t want to spoil it for you – so we’ll let you discover it for yourself. Also, there’s strangely not a single child to be found in Far Cry 5’s Hope County… weird, no? Could Pennywise’s malevolent shadow loom over the wacky open-world of Ubisoft’s latest title?
Far Cry 5 is out now on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. For more, be sure to check out our in-depth review of the game here.
