There’s a galactic war brewing on the horizon. And we’re not referring to Avengers 3.
On the streets of Los Angeles, Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck are now beginning to formulate Captain Marvel, the first true female-led solo movie ever to grace the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s hit the ground running, too, after we caught wind of the official synopsis along with Clark Gregg’s involvement, whose Agent Coulson headlines a cast of supporting players that also features Djimon Hounsou and Lee Pace, the duo best known for their villainous turns in James Gunn’s original Guardians of the Galaxy.
And because this is very much the origin story of Carol Danvers – it is set in the 1990s, after all – today brings forth another two set photos featuring the pre-Captain Marvel heroine dressed in civvies. So it’s safe to assume that these pics are taken long before Carol’s run-in with Mar-Vell and the world of the Kree.
On the casting front, Marvel’s final roll call for the 2019 offshoot comprises Nick Fury himself, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan, Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, McKenna Grace, Djimon Hounsou, Lee Pace, Clark Gregg (!) and Jude Law as Doctor Walter Lawson (Mar-Vell), a high-ranking Kree soldier who proves instrumental in Carol’s origin story.
The cameras, they are a-rolling on the Los Angeles set of Captain Marvel, which tells us that last month’s production photos were actually captured from the set of Avengers 4 – or Infinity War, providing Joe and Anthony Russo have earmarked Brie Larson’s “sassy, smartass” heroine for some form of post-credits cameo.
