It’s no secret that The Walking Dead has been struggling all season long, with the show seeing a pretty big drop in ratings and audiences losing interest as time’s worn on. But just this past week, a silver lining appeared as Sunday’s episode, titled “The Key,” saw a boost in numbers.
The real question, of course, is whether that increase in viewership can unlock some momentum for the undead flagship as we approach season 8’s grand finale, one which is expected to see the war between Rick’s group and the Saviors (and Negan!) reach a bloody conclusion. It’s a conclusion that’ll be “very satisfying” as well. Or at least, that’s according to Norman Reedus.
Speaking to EW in a recent interview, The Walking Dead stalwart teased fans with what’s to come, saying:
“There are four things that happen that could be the finale, and they all go off at once at the same time. They head in different directions, and they’re all individually as good as the next, and they’re all very, very satisfying. I like that about it. I like that it’s not just one person’s story. There are probably four, maybe five, different directions that the show could’ve ended on and it went in all of them. It’s very satisfying.”
Though the actor keeps things vague here, his comments definitely have us excited. After all, TWD finales usually deliver and with the storyline really picking up the pace now and things heating up, we’re certain that it’s all building to what’ll be an explosive conclusion.
True, AMC’s juggernaut still has a long way to go if it’s to reach the dizzying heights of seasons 4 and 5 in terms of ratings, but our fingers are crossed that it’ll be able to maintain this newfound sense of momentum until the finale. We’ll get an idea of whether or not that’ll happen when The Walking Dead returns this Sunday with the premiere of “Do Not Send Us Astray,” and it looks like the haunted Morgan Jones is about to confront his inner demons.
