“Come closer, child.”
Watch as a pre-CG Supreme Leader welcomes Rey (and Ben Solo!) into his cavernous throne room in this newly-released clip for Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
Set to be included as part of the sequel’s imminent Blu-ray release, the following snippet is more of an intimate showcase of Andy Serkis and his phenomenal ability than anything else, as the footage cuts to the mo-cap expert perched on the First Order throne. And it’s easy to see why Serkis is able to strike fear in his co-stars – namely Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver – despite being covered in bright yellow tennis balls.
And though The Last Jedi was pretty conclusive above Snoke’s fate (he was literally sliced in two), Serkis believes there’s still a chance that the erstwhile Supreme Leader could return for a future Star Wars movie – or, failing that, that his super-secret backstory will be laid bare.
Via EW:
We wanted him to have a great deal of mystery, but we did … J.J. [Abrams] and I discussed it, and Rian [Johnson] and I did discuss backstories to him, where he came from. I’ve been asked to not shed anything, should we want to bring him back in any way whether [in a] prequel or whatever. I think there’s something cool about that. It still does remain a mystery for people. I know that some people find it incredibly frustrating, but I think it allows for further exploration and layering at a further point.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be available on Blu-ray and DVD from March 27th – two weeks after its initial release across digital platforms.
