What a day it’s been for Mark Hamill.
First, the Star Wars mainstay and all-around Hollywood veteran joined The Academy’s roster of presenters for the 2018 Oscars – ditto for Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman, Justice League), Lin-Manuel Miranda, Gina Rodriguez and Armie Hammer – and now, we have confirmation that Hamill will be honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The ceremony, which has been scheduled to take place on March 8th, will make Hamill the 2,630th person to receive such an honor, and we understand both George Lucas and co-star Harrison Ford (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) will be present on the day.
Meanwhile, Ana Martinez, producer of the Walk of Fame ceremonies, shared the following statement:
Star Wars fans will be over the moon that hearing their idol Mark Hamill is going to be honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. We are proud to add this extraordinary actor on our historic Walk of Fame.
Frankly, it’s long past time that Mark Hamill got his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, so we’re pleased to see that his incredible contribution to the industry has been recognized.
It comes at a somewhat poignant time, too, given The Last Jedi brought about the end of Luke Skywalker, undoubtedly Hamill’s most famous role. Chances are he’ll reappear via Force projection in the currently untitled Episode IX, so keep your peepers peeled.
As for today’s big names, Hollywood Boulevard will play host to Mark Hamill and his Star Wars entourage – namely Lucas and Ford – on March 8th. That’s only four days after the 90th Academy Awards, which has been penciled in for Sunday, March 4th. Jimmy Kimmel will be our host for the evening.
