Originally dreamed up by Brian Michael Bendis, Matt Fraction, Jason Aaron, Ed Brubaker and Jonathan Hickman in 2012, the comic brought together a whole host of famous faces – namely Captain America, Cyclops, Hulk, Iceman, Iron Man, Magneto, Spider-Man and Storm – for what turned out to be a crossover event like no other. And thanks to Disney’s newly-unveiled takeover of 20th Century Fox, a film version of Avengers Vs. X-Men may soon become a reality.

It’s yet to be formally announced, of course, but what if the studio didn’t pit the two teams against one another and instead, united them as one? It’s an intriguing idea, and one that a talented fan has now run with, creating an epic poster that brings together Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, the X-Men and even Deadpool, making for a pretty eye-catching piece of art.

Check it out in the gallery down below, along with a few fan-made efforts that surfaced the other week:

Awesome, eh? If nothing else, this is a timely reminder that no longer will Marvel’s most famous characters be placed on separate tracks; instead, they’ll exist within a single, shared universe: the MCU. Incorporating the likes of Wolverine and the Silver Surfer may seem like a logistical nightmare on paper, particularly after 10 years of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But if Kevin Feige is to be believed, Phase 4 will herald a relatively blank slate for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes – perhaps that soft reboot will have something to do with the Infinity Stones? – and with so many characters to choose from, Feige and Co. have been left facing an embarrassment of riches.

No matter how it ends up going down, some kind of X-Men and Avengers crossover film is clearly the endgame that the Mouse House should be seeking because the sky is seriously the limit on its box office take. Now if we could just make JLA/Avengers a reality…
