From deleted scenes to extended scenes, a director’s cut to that hilarious alternate opening, New Line has opened up a treasure trove of It-related goodies in recent weeks, which is perhaps the perfect festive treat for anyone with even a passing interest in the horror genre.

Because thanks to Muschietti’s adaptation – not to mention the likes of Get Out, Split and Annabelle: Creation – 2017 proved to be a banner year for the genre overall, with It now said to be closing in on $700 million worldwide. Of course, the suits at New Line will be expecting a second boon when It scurries onto Blu-ray and DVD next month, and in anticipation of the film’s home video release, one YouTuber (via Screen Geek) has uncovered the alternate ending.

As previously reported, this finale is more of an extended look at the aftermath of Pennywise’s murder spree, during which Bill lost his only brother, Georgie, to the transdimensional demon. Having sworn a blood oath with his fellow Losers, the youngest Denbrough has vowed to circle back to Derry should Pennywise return, and that inevitable second coming is neatly foreshadowed above.

It’s a scene that was described in the film’s Blu-ray listing, too:

“Denbrough family vacation”: After saying goodbye to Beverly at the end of the movie, Bill and his parents are packing for the family vacation Bill was talking about in an earlier deleted scene. This subplot does kind of enhance the family dynamic. As the car drives away, the camera pulls in to the drain where Georgie was taken. Camera stops, and rain starts to hit the pavement. This would have been a perfect final shot.

Because make no mistake, once the 27-year hibernation period has come to a close, Pennywise will return – especially now that It: Chapter Two has been booked in for September 6th, 2019.
