Had things played out differently, Insidious: The Last Key would have released just in time for Halloween, which was sorely lacking in the ‘good scary movies’ department.
Barring Cult of Chucky, Jigsaw and Happy Death Day came and went without much fanfare, while the less said about The Snowman, the better. But fear not, horror fans, as there is light at the end of the tunnel (or should that be keyhole?), as The Last Key is now prepped and ready to send a shiver down our spines early next month.
It’s the direct sequel to Insidious: Chapter 3, which itself was a prequel to the first two Insidious films. Messy continuity aside, The Last Key looks to be fluent in scares and unrelenting tension, as parapsychologist and all-around franchise lead Elise Rainier returns home to confront her greatest fears. All of that and more is teased in the new behind the scenes featurette up above, which was released today to drum up a bit more excitement for the pic’s debut.
Featuring a cast comprised of Josh Stewart, Leigh Whannell, Angus Sampson, Kirk Acevedo, Bruce Davison, Spencer Locke and Caitlin Gerard, The Last Key flips expectations on their head by journeying into the home of Dr. Rainier, though we still expect a few excursions into the Further for good measure.
Here’s the official logline, courtesy of Lionsgate:
The creative minds behind the hit Insidious trilogy return for Insidious: The Last Key. In the supernatural thriller, which welcomes back franchise standout Lin Shaye as Dr. Elise Rainier, the brilliant parapsychologist faces her most fearsome and personal haunting yet: in her own family home.
Directing from a script penned by Leigh Whannell – a key architect of all things Insidious, alongside James Wan and Jason Blum – Adam Robitel (The Taking of Deborah Logan) will court viewers back into the Further once Insidious: The Last Key looms over theaters on January 5th, 2018 – or February 8th, if you happen to live in the United Kingdom.
