Proving that big-name cameos needn’t be exclusive to Hollywood’s superhero genre, Star Wars: The Last Jedi has carved out room for four – count ’em, four – suitably huge cameos. And we’re now hearing that they’ll all appear in the same scene as Stormtroopers.
Similar to how Daniel Craig (Bond 25) was shoehorned into The Force Awakens two years ago, The Hollywood Reporter brings word that Princes Harry and William – along with Tom Hardy (Venom) and former Take That star Gary Barlow – will be seen marshaling John Boyega’s Finn into an elevator, presumably on board one of the First Order’s many Star Destroyers. Or, by the same line of thinking, Snoke’s super-sized Supremacy, a space vessel spanning 60km in length.
Either way, should this report hold true, Star Wars: The Last Jedi is about to include the most star-studded sequence in the franchise’s history – two British Royals, a former Batman villain and Oscar nominee, and a world-renowned music star make for quite the casting docket.
While participating in THR’s recent roundtable interview, series star John Boyega said that those four icons “wrapped in Stormtroopers costumes” made for a “strange contrast of a weird family.” He added: “It’s the best of both worlds for me.”
Boyega is undoubtedly one of the key pillars underpinning Lucasfilm’s rebooted trilogy, and following his close brush with death on Starkiller base, we understand The Last Jedi will ship Finn off on a mission with Rose (Kelly Marie Tran), one which seemingly involves him infiltrating the HQ of his former employer.
The actor also gushed over his place in the Star Wars legacy, saying:
You’re a child. There’s a new planet every day and a new scene to play. It makes you feel like you’re a part of history in a sense.
And it’s one that will continue on December 15th, when Star Wars: The Last Jedi opens big.
