Even though Thor: Ragnarok debuts in cinemas in just a couple of days, it turns out we’re not going to have to wait years for interesting bits of trivia to trickle online – even though that’ll most assuredly happen. Actually, even the most unexpected sources are proving to bear some generous fruit.
As you know, Marvel Comics’ version of Thor borrows heavily from Norse mythology, with Stan Lee and Jack Kirby having fused the fantastical with science fiction back in the day, thus creating the superhero and the world he inhabits that we’ve come to love today. Furthermore, the books – along with the music of Amon Amarth – have become one of the more popular ways for folks living outside of Scandinavia to become familiar with that culture.
Obviously, names other than Thor, Loki and Odin remain mostly foreign to the average Joe, thus leading to an odd game titled “Thor Villain or IKEA Furniture?,” a new YouTube video being circulated by IGN. In it, Ragnarok stars Tessa Thompson (Valkerie) and Tom Hiddleston (Loki) face off against director Taika Waititi, guessing whether each name spoken is that of a Thor villain or a piece of furniture available for sale at IKEA.
Amongst the humor, Waititi happened to reveal that none other than Perrikus came dangerously close to appearing in the threequel. Being a product of Dan Jurgens and John Romita Jr.’s run from back in the 1990’s, he would’ve no doubt proven to be a great test for the Odinson, especially since he once laid waste to Asgard himself.
But with Hela and Surtur already serving as formidable antagonists, odds are that the studio didn’t want to turn this thing into Spider-Man 3. After all, it took several attempts in the editing room to make this movie the beast that it’s said to be, so excluding him probably helped when finding the winning formula.
