In keeping with tradition, Lucasfilm incorporated some neat parallels into the new and likely final trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
For instance, Kylo Ren’s ongoing descent into villainy was juxtaposed with Rey’s moral dilemma, while Luke Skywalker’s crippling fear was a far cry from the bold, booming voice of Supreme Leader Snoke, who can be heard uttering that chilling line: “When I found you, I sensed raw, untamed power. And beyond that, something truly special.”
And though one might assume that Andy Serkis’ grossly disfigured alien is offering some guidance to Kylo Ren, subsequent fan theories have asserted that Snoke is actually talking to Daisy Ridley’s Rey, as he begins to court her over to the dark side. Chalk that up as innocent conjecture for the time being, but with more than two months still to go before The Last Jedi‘s December release, ComicBook.com has compiled a new theory involving the great Luke Skywalker, who’s been a constant point of fixation among Star Wars fans ever since Mark Hamill’s silent cameo in the closing moments of The Force Awakens.
A lot has transpired since Hamill’s hero helped topple the Galactic Empire in Jedi, as evidenced by those haunting flashbacks of a Jedi Academy engulfed in flames. You can point the finger of blame at Kylo Ren for that fateful night, but ComicBook.com has gone one step further to suggest that Adam Driver’s budding Sith will be responsible for Luke’s alleged change of heart.
As you’ll no doubt remember, during Monday’s big reveal, Kylo utters the line, “let the past die. Kill it, if you have to. That’s the only way to become what you were meant to be.” Exactly who he’s talking to is the bigger question. Word is Han and Leia’s estranged son is luring Rey toward the First Order. But could he actually be delivering that grave warning to Luke Skywalker? Or better still, perhaps he’s waffling away to the man in the mirror?
Those questions will likely continue to simmer right up until The Last Jedi‘s arrival on December 15th, but you can pop down to the comments section and leave your own thoughts, theories and predictions in the meantime.
