Even though it won’t be seeing a theatrical release, a strong argument could be made for Cult of Chucky being one of the most anticipated horror movies to drop in 2017. Not only will it include returning favorites such as Jennifer Tilly and Alex Vincent, but it will also carry over the darker tone that director Don Mancini established in the previous film, Curse of Chucky.
As you may know by now, the sequel will debut on October 3, being made available on Blu-ray, DVD, Digital HD and On Demand. Not only that, but according to IGN, it’ll also be coming to Netflix on that very day as well. Thus, you have one more option as to how you can get your Chucky fix.
What’s also interesting to note is that Bloody Disgusting reports Cult of Chucky will be included in AMC’s Fear Fest lineup. The annual horror movie marathon is set to kickoff on October 23, so be sure to check your local listings for more details. It should, however, be expected that the TV cut won’t be quite as gruesome as what you’ll see on other platforms.
Where the Child’s Play franchise may go from here is anybody’s guess (we’re doubting that crossover with Freddy Krueger will ever happen), but we won’t soon forget what Mancini himself had to say about what the latest film’s ending will portend:
“I think that the end of this movie, hopefully, sets up a world of infinite possibilities. That was the intention. David Kirschner and I – he’s been the producer on all of the [Child’s Play] movies – are talking about a new iteration for the franchise. I know that sounds very vague. But that’s all I can say at this point.”
