This fall we are going to get a slate of films that is easily one of the best that we’ve seen in recent years. Among this crop of amazing movies is a baseball film, called Moneyball which has got itself one hell of a pedigree.

Starring Brad Pitt, Jonah Hill, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Robin Wright, directed by Bennett Miller and a script which has Steven Zaillian and Aaron Sorkin on the front page, this film has Oscar written all over it. If that isn’t enough to sell it then take a look at the new trailer, which promises to be an inspiring and funny delight.

The film is based on the book of the same name, a non fiction account written by Michael Lewis. The plot summary is as follows.

Oakland A’s general manager Billy Beane’s successful attempt to put together a baseball club on a budget by employing computer-generated analysis to draft his players.

From the trailer it looks to be a another rise to success story from Sorkin, who previously mined this territory in films like The Social Network and Charlie Wilson’s War, and although there is another writer onboard, it appears to carry his signature dialogue.

Zaillian will probably bring in his talent for decisive and intelligent plotting as well as social relevance. Moneyball also sees Bennett Miller back behind the camera, telling another true life story after tackling the story behind In Cold Blood with Capote. This is the first thing he’s done since Capote and it will be a welcome return, that was a brilliant film and he knows how to handle true life in a balanced manner.

Moneyball will have a gala screening at the Toronto Film Festival before its release on September 23rd, watch the trailer below.
