Like it or not, the Avengers as we know them won’t be around for much longer. Captain America, Thor, Iron Man and the rest of the gang are on their way out. After all, with Marvel introducing so many new heroes into their cinematic universe, there simply isn’t enough room for everyone to remain and whether it’s by being killed or simply written out in some way, the old guard is going to have to make way for the new recruits quite soon. Not to mention that the contracts for many of the original actors are close to expiring.
With that in mind, it’s easy to see how the studio’s now positioning the likes of Black Panther, Doctor Strange and others to take over the Avengers mantle once Tony, Steve and the rest move on. And while that likely won’t happen in Infinity War, we fully expect its currently untitled sequel to close the book on the original group. At least, somewhat.
Granted, we have heard that Chris Evans has signed on for Phase 4 and we don’t imagine Marvel will get rid of him just yet, but a new report hailing from 4chan claims that the fifth Avengers movie will certainly be making way for a new roster. One that sounds quite exciting, too.
Now, as with anything that comes from 4chan, it’s important to take this with a massive grain of salt, but seeing as the online forum has produced some accurate info in the past, it’s worth looking over. And while the user who posted the scoop wouldn’t name a source, what they said was rather interesting.
According to them, Avengers 5, which will presumably be with us during Phase 4, will be called either New Avengers or Mighty Avengers. Not only that, but it will also include Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, Ant-Man, the Wasp and possibly Moon Knight, who’s apparently set to be introduced into the MCU soon. Or at least, James Gunn is “heavily pushing” for it to happen, which means it likely will.
Again though, none of this has been confirmed and until it is, it’s best to just treat it as a rumor and nothing more. Still, that being said, it seems very probable that this will come to fruition, as the heroes mentioned above are clearly being built up to be the new faces of the franchise moving forward and again, Robert Downey Jr. and co. are definitely on their way out of the MCU.
One way or another, we should start to get some answers pretty soon, as we’re now less than a year away from Avengers: Infinity War and it’ll surely be in that film which the seeds for this changeover are planted.
