If Avengers: Infinity War and the role of Thanos simply requires some motion capture work and perhaps a booming line of dialogue here and there, then the opposite is true for Cable.
Alongside Domino (Zazie Beetz), Nathan Summers is one of the high-profile newcomers on the Deadpool 2 roll call, and after Pierce Brosnan, Kyle Chandler, Stephen Lang (Avatar), Michael Shannon, Keira Knightley, and soon-to-be Hellboy actor David Harbour were all linked with the gig, Infinity War‘s Josh Brolin sealed a deal to play Cable opposite the Merc With a Mouth.
It’s a role the actor has wholeheartedly embraced, too, posting a steady stream of updates from the make-up chair and even the gym, where he’s spent long hours getting into shape in the hope of portraying an accurate version of Nathan Summers. After all, the one-eyed, time-travelling mercenary is a bona fide fan-favorite amongst comic book fans, and he was even name-dropped during the finale of Tim Miller’s Deadpool last year, so there’s most definitely a particular weight of expectation pressing down on the actor’s burly shoulders at the moment.
But at least based on the praise pouring in from his co-stars, fans have nothing to worry about when it comes to Josh Brolin’s performance. Speaking to Fandango this week to promote his new film, The Hitman’s Bodyguard, Ryan Reynolds had nothing but good things to say about the No Country for Old Men star, promising an “epic” Cable in the upcoming sequel.
“I think it’s going to be very interesting. I’ve spent this last week on the business end of many Josh Brolin punches. Both verbal and physical and literal and it’s going to be pretty fantastic. He’s going to be epic. He’s going to be an epic Cable.”
Deadpool 2 shoots for theaters on June 1st, 2018, and when it does, it’ll seemingly carve out more room for Colossus. Russian actor Stefan Kapicic is back in the voice booth to portray the towering mutant, joining a list of returnees that includes T.J. Miller (Weasel), Brianna Hildebrand (Negasonic Teenage Warhead), Karan Soni (Dopinder), Leslie Uggams (Blind Al), and Morena Baccarin (Vanessa).
