As expected, NetherRealm finally revealed the first gameplay trailer for Injustice 2 DLC character Starfire at San Diego Comic-Con last weekend, but while fans of the beat ’em up will be eager to take the Tamaranian into battle next month, all eyes are now beginning to look ahead for a glimpse at what the future holds.
Announced shortly before the game’s launch back in May, Fighter Pack 1 saw the super powered brawler’s post-launch plans get off to a terrific start, with the likes of Red Hood and Sub-Zero having since made a welcome home for themselves in-game, but with its final member Starfire now slotted in for a tentative August release, fans’ hopes, dreams and desires for future DLC are bound to start flooding in on a daily basis.
On the whole, NetherRealm has managed to keep quiet on what it has planned for Fighter Pack 2, but that hasn’t stopped director Ed Boon from having a little fun with the player base by dropping a handful of hints. Right now, one particular DC character – Black Manta – seems to be a shoo-in, with past leaks and comments from Boon appearing to confirm as much, but what about the other two?
Assuming it follows the same format as the first, we shouldn’t be surprised to see another Mortal Kombat staple included, especially as a silhouette of what appeared to be thunder god Raiden in-game had been spotted previously, so that just leaves one mystery addition. As per comments made by Boon during an interview at SDCC (via ComicBook.com), it appears as if the character, whoever they are, will be an unexpected reveal and illicit the “biggest wow” of any reveal made to date.
We, of course, have no idea who he or she is, but there’s certainly no shortage of possibilities. Todd MacFarlane’s iconic creation Spawn, along with Hellboy and even the Watchmen‘s Rorschach are popular frontrunners, but we’ll have to wait and see what unfolds over the next few weeks.
Boon stated that a trailer for Injustice 2‘s next DLC is coming “very soon” as well, so watch this space for more.
