This week marks the release of the long-awaited Spider-Man: Homecomingthe first Spidey solo movie to take place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s also the first time we’ll really get to watch Tom Holland make his mark on the part of Peter Parker, after his cameo role in Captain America: Civil War got us all excited to see more.

We know Holland beat off dozens of other young actors to get the job, so he must have seriously impressed the folks at Marvel in his auditions, and thanks to MTV, we now have a humorous taste of what those might have been like via the video up above.

During his chat with the outlet, Tom apparently introduces some “never-before-seen” clips from his audition process. They see the actor try out a variety of left-field attempts at portraying Spider-Man – including a stereotypical Brit, an overly-dramatic turn with a “Noo-Yawker” accent and, last but not least, in the style of Christian Bale’s Batman.

This isn’t the first time Spider-Man and Batman have crossed over in conjunction with Spider-Man: Homecoming, either. As you surely know by now, former Bruce Wayne, Michael Keaton, has jumped ship to Marvel for the movie as he’s playing another winged vigilante – this time, Adrian Toomes AKA Vulture.

The video also (jokingly) tells us that Holland has never picked up a comic book, with the actor calling his favourite superheroes the “Justice Avengers.” As any fan of Holland knows, though, he’s been a massive fan of Spider-Man since childhood and being in a Marvel movie – let alone playing a superhero – was his dream role.

Not that it still needs to be said, but Holland is an incredibly talented individual and his likeable performance as the youngest Peter Parker we’ve ever had has wowed critics so far. In fact, it’s very possible that he could go down as the best cinematic version of the character yet – and he doesn’t do a bad Batman impression, either.

Spider-Man: Homecoming is now playing in the UK and arrives in US theatres tomorrow, July 7th.
