Despite Avengers: Infinity War not arriving in theaters until 2018, that certainly doesn’t mean 2017 is any slouch when it comes to serving up significant entries in the franchise Marvel Studios have established. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is now behind us, but before we get to the barn-burner that Thor: Ragnarok looks to be, our next stop on the road is that of Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Now, the casual moviegoer may wonder what’s so special about it, with it being the sixth solo film to feature the wallcrawler. Well, aside from being yet another reboot, it’s Peter Parker’s first adventure taking place within the Marvel Cinematic Universe to truly call his own. Yes, he did show up in Captain America: Civil War last year, but that was a guest shot – and there’s Earth’s Mightiest Retcon saying that he actually appeared way back in Iron Man 2, but that’s neither here nor there.
Speaking of which, Robert Downey Jr. will stand alongside Tom Holland, reprising his role of Tony Stark. So, if one of the biggest icons in all of pop culture weren’t enough, Marvel Studios’ golden boy is sure to help with selling at least a few more tickets.
And although the movie’s wide release is still over a week away (July 7), Sony and Marvel are giving us the opportunity to take part in the festivities, even if we can’t physically be on the red carpet at TCL Chinese Theater. In other words, be sure to come back here later today at 6:00 p.m. PT/9:00 p.m. ET, because the video at the top will serve as your gateway to Hollywood.
