Curious to know when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be available on Blu-ray/DVD? According to an online Target listing, James Gunn’s spacefaring sequel may be making its way onto home video sooner than expected.
First spotted by ComicBook.com, the retail giant has slated the Marvel adventure for release across Blu-ray, DVD, and digital platforms on August 22nd. No further details on bonus features and the like were disclosed at the time of writing, and don’t expect that to change until Marvel Studios issues an official statement. Moreover, Target’s listing mentions August 22nd as the street date, which tells us that Target and other major retailers will have Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 on shelves – both physical and digital – either on that day or shortly thereafter.
Should that hold true, Marvel is planning to release Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 across Blu-ray and DVD as a late-summer treat, and it’s one that will no doubt ensure fans are entertained between the theatrical launch of Spider-Man: Homecoming (July 7th) and Thor: Ragnarok (November 3rd), the third and final Marvel tentpole to release in 2017. Whatever the case, we’ll have the official date for GotG Vol. 2‘s home video release for you the moment it’s live.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 zoomed into theatres to rave reviews and an impressive box office haul that now stands at $833 million. That’s after six weeks on the market, so there’s still time for James Gunn’s barnstorming sequel to break that fabled $1 billion milestone.
One way or another, the writer-director fully intends to reunite Marvel’s most dysfunctional family for Vol. 3, and it would appear as if he’s already in possession of a first draft.
