Let it be known that March’s Age of Triumph will go down as the final content update for Destiny.
That’s because Bungie currently has all hands on deck in anticipation of Destiny 2, and therefore has no plans to introduce further gameplay changes and tweaks to its original sci-fi shooter. Word comes by way of the studio’s latest blog post, which reminded Guardians that September’s sequel has now become the “sole focus” for the development team, and that everyone involved is “committed to making Destiny 2 the sequel that this community deserves.”
Per Bungie:
In our constant watch over the community, we’ve heard many of you asking if the current sandbox will get another design pass. Our sole focus at this time is Destiny 2. Our hope is that you’ll sense what all your feedback has meant to us when you get your chance to play Destiny 2, wherever or whenever that happens. As always, we thank you for playing, and for giving the feedback that helps us to make better games.
But just because Bungie is bringing an end to Destiny‘s post-launch content doesn’t necessarily mean that the shooter is about to be yanked offline. Even after its much-anticipated sequel touches down in September, the studio still plans to offer support services for the game for the foreseeable future. With E3 2017 right around the corner, expect to receive more intel from Bungie on Destiny 2 and its future very soon indeed.
Destiny 2 will deploy for PS4, Xbox One and PC (!) on September 8th. An early fall release window proved to be an opportune time to launch Bungie’s original shared-world shooter, and after two whole years of fostering an impassioned community of Guardians, there’s a very good chance that Bungie’s long-awaited sequel will go on to become a solid candidate for Game of the Year. Stay tuned for more.
