A new trailer for Warner Bros.’ Middle-Earth: Shadow of War has been released today that aims to give fans a detailed look at some of the action-RPG’s explorable locations. Clocking in at just two minutes in length, that’s all the time developer Monolith Production needs in order to highlight the breathtaking vistas players will be exploring later this year. Just from this new footage alone, it appears as if Talion and Celebrimbor will visiting a far more diverse set of areas than those found in Shadow of War‘s predecessor.
The dank, dark and squalid goblin and orc-infested camps that punctuated Shadow of Mordor‘s map look set to return for the sequel, but joining those will be others, including sun-soaked coastal towns, frostbitten mountain ranges and lush, forested areas – an eclectic range that should go a long way in complimenting your quest to ‘dominate the open word,’ as the trailer so elegantly phrases it, that much more enjoyable. Gorgoroth, the Island of Nurn and Seregost are just some of the environments shown off in the trailer, which you can watch above.
Set in the interim between The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings sagas, Shadow of War once again sees the return of dual protagonists Talion and Celebrimbor as they roam the world, attempting to raise an army in order to combat the Dark Lord, Sauron.
Middle-Earth: Shadow of War is out August 22 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, with those that pre-order gaining access to additional content. The trailer also confirms that several post-launch expansions, two focused around the series’ revered Nemesis system and two story-related add-ons, will follow its release, all of which will be included in a special ‘Gold’ edition.
