Not exactly the best-kept secret in the world beforehand, Activision and Call of Duty: Black Ops III developer Treyarch confirmed last week that the 2015 shooter will indeed be receiving one further spurt of content growth with another DLC. Zombies Chronicles, as you’d suspect, given the name, is an add-on dedicated entirely to bringing fans of the spinoff mode the definitive zombie experience by way of eight remastered maps from past Call of Duty titles.
Yes, the map that started it all – Nacht der Untoten – as well as two other maps from World at War, three from the original Black Ops and one from its sequel are all confirmed to be receiving a new lick of paint ready for their return on May 16 for PlayStation 4. Activision’s announcement doesn’t provide a release date for Xbox One or PC versions, but you can probably expect the timed-exclusivity period to last for around one month.
As for price and availability, the entirety of the expansion will cost you $30, double the amount a typical CoD map pack costs, but a predictable price point, given Zombies Chronicles boasts essentially double the number of maps. It goes without saying, but you’ll need to own a copy of Black Ops III in order to access the new content, which will be a digital-only download. Those that do give in to their undead-slaying urges will receive all the new maps as well as the following bonus content.
- 20 Vials of Liquid Divinium
- 2 All-New, Whimsical GobbleGums
- Exclusive Zombies Pack-A-Punch Weapon Camo
- Black Ops III Zombies Chronicles Dynamic System Theme for PlayStation 4, an exclusive pre-order incentive
