A new update for Final Fantasy XV is scheduled for release next week, Square Enix Japan has announced. Dropping April 27, the patch, like most minor updates rolled out for the RPG, will be free to download and adds, among other niceties, a new “Stable Mode” frame rate option for PS4 Pro users. According to Gematsu‘s translation of the patch notes, Stable Mode is for those looking for the most consistent performance that’s possible to be squeezed out of Sony’s souped-up console, which likely makes small sacrifices in other areas to compensate.
Given that exploring Final Fantasy XV‘s open world can sometimes get a little choppy when using the Pro’s existing options, Square’s decision to offer an alternative is more than welcome, especially if it ends up performing as well as Team Ninja’s Nioh does when frame rate consistency is prioritized.
As for the remainder of the patch’s contents, it’s a mixed bag of odds and ends, but if you’re still enjoying Noctis’ adventure, there should be something here for you. First introduced with a previous free update, Timed Quests return, only this time a new ranking system has been included, with a unique weapon up for grabs for those that participate. New songs and stickers for the Regalia are also coming, so be sure to look out for those, too. There’s no word yet whether the upcoming patch will be available in the West at the same time as Japan, but we’ll keep an eye out and keep you informed.
Patch Notes:
- New “Stable Mode” added to the PlayStation 4 Pro resolution options. With this mode, you can comfortably enjoy playing the game with a stable frame rate.
- Subtitles, as well as some menu screen text sizes have been enlarged.
- Timed Quests will start up again, and a new ranking feature has been added. You can get a wonderful weapon as an initial reward.
- New car stickers added for Regalia customization.
- New songs added to the music player.
As far as meatier, paid-for DLC is concerned, last month marked the arrival of Final Fantasy XV‘s first story episode, Gladiolus, with two more, one each for Ignis and Prompto, to follow throughout 2017. If you’ve yet to pick it up, find our review of the add-on here.
