Back when Spider-Man: Homecoming was putting together its cast, jokes were made about just how many actors were being added to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We still don’t know who many of them are playing, of course, but one thing which sadly became apparent was that J. Jonah Jameson was not among the characters set to show up in the reboot.
For those unaware, the boss of The Daily Bugle newspaper hates Spider-Man and was played brilliantly by J.K. Simmons in Sam Raimi’s trilogy. Seemingly unsure that that performance could be topped, The Amazing Spider-Man franchise left the character on the shelf outside of a few vague references, which didn’t sit well with a lot of fans – to say the least.
Those hoping the Marvel Cinematic Universe would make up for that look set to be sorely disappointed. Or at least, that seemed to be the case. Now, however, it appears as if there’s at least a chance Jonah will show up in the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel. At a recent Sony event in Japan, new footage and props from the reboot were shown off to reporters and among them was a replica of The Daily Bugle.
It’s an old copy with news of the UN attack in Captain America: Civil War on the cover, but this now confirms that the Bugle exists in the MCU. It remains to be seen whether or not this newspaper will serve as a simple Easter Egg or a hint at bigger things to come for the iconic location and its cast of characters, but one thing’s for certain, and that’s that Spider-Man: Homecoming just got a whole lot more exciting.
