Drive made waves at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival, with director Nicolas Winding Refn nabbing Best Director for the raw crime thriller. Now we get a look at Refn’s signature unflinching violence and steely poetry in the just-released, high-octane Drive red band trailer.
I wasn’t too interested in this film from what I heard of its story and plot, but after seeing this new trailer my interest is definitely piqued. Ryan Gosling leads an impressive cast that includes Carey Mulligan, Bryan Cranston, Christina Hendricks, Ron Perlman, and Albert Brooks. The energy and suggested sleek violence in the trailer makes me think this movie is going to be more than your run-of-the-mill crime thriller. It looks more like a stylish crime neo-noir.
Based on a novel by James Sallis, Drive centers around a stunt drive who dabbles in crime as a get-away driver. He gets involved with some dangerous criminals and finds himself in a multi-layered double-cross scenario that threatens to endanger not only his life, but the life of a woman and child.
