The Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 marketing machine continues to operate at full tilt and today, we have a blistering new TV spot to peruse, in which you’ll discover that Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) only answers to Star-Lord – not Star-Prince, not Star-Munch…Star-Lord.
Now that James Gunn’s blockbuster has taken up residence on the front cover of Empire Magazine (subscriber cover here; standard cover here), there’s also a handful of new images to pour over, too, which bring together the universe’s unlikeliest heroes and Nebula, Karen Gillan’s elusive character who is expected to enjoy a bigger role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 come May. Proving that size matters, yesterday also brought confirmation that the VFX work involved in rendering Ego, the Living Planet resulted in “the biggest visual effect of all time” with “over a trillion polygons.” Heck, James Gunn even drafted in renown artist Hal Tenny to help visualize the celestial body.
Of course, Guardians 2 will also squeeze Ego, the Living Planet into a human vessel in the form of Kurt Russell. He’s the long-lost father to Peter Quill, and a deity who seemingly harbors the power to manifest himself in a variety of different ways. Controlling the molecules around you certainly makes for an exciting ability, but will it result in Kurt Russell’s ancient character hopping between various bodies? Time will tell.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 makes a beeline for theaters on May 5th. There’s already speculation swirling about a potential third film in Marvel’s spacefaring series, and though James Gunn recently conceded that Vol. 3 is inevitable, the writer-director warned budding fans that there are no specific plans in place…yet.
