Ubisoft’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands launched last week for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, and despite it having rolled out amidst the launch of a new console and faced with stiff competition from two critically acclaimed titles, the open world tactical shooter has managed to take pole position in the UK charts in its debut week.
Not only that, but according to GfK Chart-Track, it’s officially the biggest launch of 2017 so far, beating out the likes of Horizon Zero Dawn and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. Of course, given that – unlike Wildlands – both aforementioned titles are exclusive to a single platform, the revelation shouldn’t come as that much of a surprise, but it didn’t quite manage to attract the same level of critical praise as those titles, either.
In regards to how it stacks up against other Ubisoft titles: last year’s The Division still retains the crown for biggest launch week in the Q1 period, but the developer should be no less satisfied with the result.
As for how the rest of this week’s chart looks, the big names you’d expect are still present, although there have been some notable shifts. Horizon Zero Dawn concedes no.1 to Wildlands, falling to second, while new entry LEGO Worlds takes no.3. Breath of the Wild drops two spots to fourth, while GTA V also drops two places, coming in at fifth.
